Overview

Powder density refers to the mass per unit volume of powder. Due to the existence of voids (or pores) between or within the particles in the powder, the density of the powder is usually less than the real density of the corresponding substance. Powder density can be divided into loose density (also known as bulk density) and tapped density according to its different testing methods. To know the loose density, fill the loose state of the powder sample uniformly and continuously in a known volume of measuring cup, and weigh the mass of the measuring cup and powder sample. Then you can calculate the loose density of the powder sample. Tap density refers to the density of the powder contained in the container after it is tapped under specified conditions

AODE-300 Tap Density Tester of Powder Characteristics is equipped with 4 kinds of cylinders: 25ml, 50 ml, 100 ml, and 250 ml (optional). To improve the accuracy of the test, please select the appropriate measuring cylinder according to the weight (m) and loose density (ρ) of the powder to be tested.

  1. Installation of Cylinders

According to the selected graduated cylinder, complete the installation of the graduated cylinder according to the following steps:

  1. Carefully insert the matching polyurethane gasket from the upper part of the graduated cylinder into the graduated cylinder
  2. Carefully insert the upper layer of the aluminum measuring cylinder bracket from the upper part of the measuring cylinder
  3. Add a silicone pad to the bottom of the graduated cylinder
  4. Slowly tighten the lower layer of the aluminum barrel bracket with the guide rod and the upper layer of the bracket, and fix it firmly;
  5. After the measuring cylinder assembly is installed, put the guide rod of the assembly into the hole of the guide bearing.

Note: Be careful not to damage the cylinder while testing

  1. Testing

      3.1 Steps

  1. Clean the cylinder
  2. Dry the sample
  3. Weigh the Sample and key in the weight
  4. Fill in the cylinder with sample
  5. Finish tapping
  6. Read the volume
  7. Get the result
  1. Clean the cylinder

Clean the graduated cylinder with a tube brush or rinse with a solvent, such as acetone solution. If solvents are used, the graduated cylinder should be dried thoroughly before use.

  1. Dry the sample

In general, powders should be experimented in the received state. In some cases, it is necessary to dry the powder. If the powder is prone to oxidation, drying should be carried out in a vacuum or inert gas. If the powder contains volatile substances, it cannot be dried. If so, the experiment can be carried out directly.

  1. Weigh the Sample and key in the weight

Weigh the appropriate amount of sample to be measured. Turn on the switch of the density meter (the back side of the instrument), press “Weight” on the keyboard, and enter the actual weight of the sample to be measured into the microcomputer. 5 significant digits can be entered.

  1. Fill in the cylinder with sample

Put the sample entirely into the graduated cylinder. Keep the surface of the powder in a horizontal state. Then put the graduated cylinder assembly in the tester and start testing.

  1. Finish tapping

Set the timerPress ► on the timer. The time to be adjusted shows that the actual data of the digital tube flashes after flashing. Press ▲ to finish settingThe maximum setting time is 99 minutes and 59 seconds. Press to start the timer and begin tapping. (Press and hold the ► key to set it08-4 is the timer, 29-3 is the count)

In practice, the minimum number of taps N required for the volume of the powder to no longer change can be determined. For similar powders, in addition to the specific number of vibrations (not less than N times) that have been determined at the time of usual experiments and acceptance, 2N taps are sufficient. For metal powders of various particle sizes, 3000 taps can achieve satisfactory results.

  1. Read the volume

If the upper surface of the powder is horizontal after tapping, it can be read directly. If the upper surface of the powder after tapping is not horizontal, the highest and lowest values are read, and the average value is calculated to obtain the tapped volume. When reading, keep a one-digit estimate.

  1. Calculation

After the steps above are completed, the density calculation results can be completed according to ρ = m/v.

  1. Maintenance

1. The power supply voltage should be between 200V to 240V, when the power supply voltage is unstable, or there is pulse interference, it should be equipped with precision purification AC stabilized power supply

2. This equipment should be placed stably to avoid vibration, knocking, and falling off

3. When moving the tester, be careful not to hit the instrument

4. When cleaning the surface of the instrument, wipe it with a damp towel dipped in detergent and wring out is allowed, but do not allow liquid to flow or splash into the inside of the instrument

5. The system power should not be turned off immediately after turning on. The interval between each on and off should be greater than 5 seconds.

6. Always check the connecting wires such as the protective ground wire to ensure that all parts of the system are in good condition.

7. The tapping component is a moving part, and the powder splashed into the linear bearing should be cleaned with a brush in time. Regularly add the right amount of lubricating oil to the linear bearing.
